Go with the Flow Page 16
One must withdraw into solitude in order to achieve one’s goals. One thing that successful people share in common is that they spent time alone to overcome their limitation. Masterpieces were created in this way. They would not have been able to sharpen their skills without taking the time to think, meditate and practice in solitude.
People are often distracted by the glamorous side of being successful. They only see how successful people perform at their best and are surrounded by an applauding crowd. They see only the best part. Very few are prepared to see the underlying hard work and dedication of an individual.
Professional Go players live in solitude. Learning how to play the game, competing, accepting, and overcoming the outcome- each is a lonely journey. They rarely have anyone to talk to, or to share what they go through. They deal with their situation alone and find solace in solitude. We willingly withdraw into the dark cave of solitude to become stronger and to overcome the memory of the last defeat.
A philosopher once said, “A strong person is someone who endures loneliness.” Another said, “Loneliness is liberating. Loneliness makes one stronger.” To gather the wisdom to live by and to make one’s dream come true, one must have the maturity that befits the level of one’s skills. One needs to spend more time thinking in solitude.
